This truth lays the foundation for an inspiring story that has impacted our hearts here at Water Street. Based on the New York Times Bestseller, Same Kind of Different as Me is a movie that portrays the true story of a modern day slave, an international art dealer, and the unlikely woman who bound them together. Ron and Debbie Hall are an estranged couple who attempt to revive their marriage. “Guided by Debbie’s faith and spurred on by the dream of a homeless man she senses will change their city, Debbie befriends a disenfranchised man named Denver. More surprisingly, so does Ron. Despite vast differences, their lives begin to intersect and they all are changed … forever.”
The release of Same Kind of Different as Me provides ministries with a platform for a public conversation about engaging our community. This movie has the heart and grit to be a catalyst for transforming ourselves and our community into the image of Christ. We decided to prescreen the film for 200 local leaders in our Lancaster County community in hopes that a ripple effect will cause others to see this movie when it releases. We believe Same Kind of different as Me will challenge our Lancaster County community to not only view homelessness in a different way, but to pursue relationships and helping others in a deeper and more impactful way.
By partnering with Same Kind of Different as Me, we hope to engage with the others to align with this message of hope. Our desire is for an increased focus on personal ministry to those around us and to provide a model for transforming communities nationwide. Same Kind of Different As Me is a clear example of one person taking the time to truly see the heart of another and choosing to invest their energy into being a friend. When authentically done, this has the power to not only transform a life but can truly lead to transforming an entire community.
