The 12 & 1 Center Is Open — A New Front Door for Our Neighbors

For a few weeks now, neighbors have already been walking through the doors at 121 S. Prince Street—selecting groceries, asking questions, finding a warm welcome, sitting down for a cup of coffee. Now it’s official: the 12 & 1 Center is open, and it’s already doing what it was designed to do; meeting people where they are with dignity, hospitality, and practical care.

More than a building

One of the first things guests notice once they step into the 12 & 1 Center is the 12 & 1 Market, a grocery experience that allows households to select food that fits their needs. It’s not a line to stand in; it’s a space that feels human and respectful. For many neighbors, that sense of choice and normalcy matters just as much as the food itself.

“This is more than a building—it’s a front door,” said Kenny Bowman, Director of Outreach. “When someone walks in, our team can listen, build trust, and help connect them with the next right step—groceries today, and a plan for tomorrow.”

Whether someone needs groceries, help navigating benefits, a connection to healthcare, or simply a listening ear, this space is meant to say: you’re welcome here.

Expanded services

Beyond the market, the 12 & 1 Center brings together expanded outreach services under one roof. Everything about the building was designed with hospitality in mind—open layouts, clear signage, quiet spaces for conversation, and open rooms that can be used for small groups and building community. Staff and volunteers are available to help neighbors navigate next steps and serve as a resource.

We’re beyond grateful to the generous support of everyone who has this space possible, and so moved by the neighbors in our community who are already making the space come alive.

The 12 & 1 Center is part of Water Street Mission’s Outreach Ministry, serving neighbors through the 12 & 1 Market, relational hospitality, and connections to resources—all rooted in dignity, care, and Christ-centered love.
