This holiday season alone, we will serve nearly 27,000 meals to people experiencing homelessness. Additionally, we will give thousands of bags of groceries to our community members in need through our food bank in Lancaster.
“We are excited to raise over 110,000 pounds of food this year, with all of your help,” says Kerry Brubaker, Food Manager of Water Street’s Outreach Center.
This will provide food for the community, meals for our guests, and over 500 Thanksgiving boxes to be distributed to our Lancaster County neighbors in need.
The five most needed items we are looking for during Rescue Mission Food Drive are:
- Canned fruit – any type of canned fruit is appreciated!
- Boxes of stuffing
- Mashed potatoes
- Canned meat – tuna, spam, chicken
- Boxes of cereal
Our annual food drive runs from November 1st to December 22nd. It’s a great way for businesses and families to get involved in supporting the most vulnerable individuals and families in our Lancaster community. All food donations can be dropped off at Water Street’s campus on 210 South Prince Street, or you can use one of our participating drop off locations – there’s over 30 different locations throughout the county!
Aside from our seasonal need of food to fill our Thanksgiving boxes, we are always accepting canned fruits and vegetables at our food bank. Hearty soups are especially appreciated during the fall and winter season. We also look for foods that can help supplement a family with their daily needs, such as rice and pasta, and cereals.
Here at Water Street’s food bank in Lancaster, we are incredibly blessed with a generous community – from local businesses and farmers to individuals and families who frequently donate everything from produce to non-perishable items to Water Street Mission. This allows us to regularly offer many different types of foods to our neighbors, and we are so grateful for all the support the Lancaster County community is showing!
